ALIEN - Dramas & Novelisations - Sound Quality Upgrades 2025 on 2discs

All of the Alien dramas and the four movie novelisations are now (via Libation) available as full 44100Hz encodes.

They are using a new codec which sounds great, genuine VBR rather than constrained, average-bit-rate of old. However, it’s not very backwards compatible, it can’t be losslessly edited or volume changed without completely re-coding, so to avoid dropping quality too much, the re-encoded content has been compressed using FDK VBR 5

The Alien dramas are available in stereo, or enhanced for headphones. This was done with a foobar2000 DSP and is much better than my previous amateur attempts. With your eyes shut it’s quite effective.

The novelisation of William Gibson’s Alien 3 had a mistake in the first chapter which stated Ripley had been in Hypersleep for 47 years. I think that may be why you can’t buy it anymore. I finally got round to fixing it here, that sort of thing drives me up the wall.
